Define what mobile means in the proposal
A mobile itinerary generally involves a camp that moves with the safari, but the practical arrangements need to be spelled out. Ask whether guests help set up tents or whether staff handle camp duties. Request a description of the sleeping system, bathroom arrangements, meals and charging facilities.
The word camping does not answer these questions. Two itineraries with similar routes may involve substantially different equipment and workloads. If you enjoy participating, say so; if you want to concentrate entirely on wildlife while staff manage camp, make that equally clear. There is no need to buy a travel style that conflicts with how you actually want to spend your holiday.
Compare the rhythm of moving days
A mobile route can make the journey between camps part of the safari experience. It can also involve long drives and time needed to establish the next camp. Ask how many nights are spent in each location and what a typical relocation day looks like from waking to dinner.
A lodge itinerary may use shorter activities from a fixed base, with transfers happening separately. That can make settling in easier, but frequent lodge changes can still be tiring. Count the number of times you pack, not just the apparent quality of the accommodation. A slower mobile journey may be less disruptive than a lodge tour that moves every morning.
Be precise about comfort requirements
Describe what you need rather than requesting vague reassurance about comfort. Do you need a proper bed rather than a mattress near the ground? Is an attached bathroom essential? Can you manage steps, uneven surfaces and limited power? Ask how a person reaches the bathroom after dark and which procedures guests must follow.
For lodges, ask the same practical questions instead of assuming permanent buildings solve everything. A remote camp may offer generous rooms while having limited charging or connectivity. Your aim is to identify the arrangements that affect sleep, confidence and enjoyment. An honest match is more valuable than choosing the most impressive category name.
Consider guiding and the group
Ask whether the same guide stays with the group throughout a mobile itinerary and how many travelers share the vehicle. Group compatibility matters when days are spent together. Find out whether the departure is private, a scheduled group trip or a booking that might be combined with others.
For a lodge itinerary, clarify whether you change guides at every property and whether private activities are included. A traveler who values a continuous conversation about wildlife may prefer fewer changes. Someone who enjoys hearing different perspectives may welcome them. Neither format guarantees stronger guiding, so ask about the actual service and how your interests are communicated.
Check route feasibility and equipment
Botswana Tourism describes Moremi as a destination for self-drive camping as well as wildlife viewing across varied land and wetland habitats. That does not mean an independently driven version of a mobile route is suitable for every visitor. Driving skills, equipment and current conditions should be discussed with a qualified local provider.
If you are joining a guided trip, ask what luggage is practical, how bags are stored and what happens when equipment needs attention. Confirm drinking-water provision, dietary arrangements and the provider's emergency procedures. These are ordinary product questions that help distinguish a thoughtfully organised journey from an appealing route description with little operational detail.
Choose the experience you want to remember
Mobile camping may appeal because the camp itself feels closely connected to the journey. Lodges may appeal because you want a stable base and a place to retreat between activities. A combined itinerary is possible, but each section should have enough time to feel worthwhile rather than being a single demonstration night.
Ask for total costs and cancellation terms for the complete route. Compare included activities, transfers, conservation charges and any supplements. Then picture an ordinary day with no headline sighting: preparing for departure, eating lunch, resting and returning to camp. Choose the style you would still enjoy on that day, because those ordinary hours are a substantial part of any safari.
